I've had a few good Balcones lately, so picked this up locally. 100% rye, aged "at least 24 months." Neat in a Glencairn.

Nose: Nice notes of chocolate, tobacco, hay, grain. But also a bit of a chemical note.

Palate: Lots of tobacco which is quite nice. Chocolate, cigar box, rye grain. But you really get a lot of new make spirit in this, and not in a good way. A bit chemically.

Finish: Tastes like new make, but the chocolate and tobacco notes are there in the background.

Overall: This frustrates me. There is a ton of potential here, but it needed another 2-3 years in oak, then it would have been very good. The flavors are nice but they're not rounded, very sharp.
