Founded in 1992, the bottler with Italian roots Wilson & Morgan has a track record from here to... Venice? Their Barrel Selection has been available worldwide since 2000. In my glass is a malt that comes from a vatting of 3 barrels, which explains the large number of bottles. A first fill PX sherry butts finish of 12 months undoubtedly means that I can expect a lot of sweetness.

I am not disappointed in that respect. A cartload of caramel and toffee with a soft spiciness, but also some umami notes in the background. Think broth and even some chewing tobacco.

A little waxy on the tongue, but surprisingly soft. The spiciness of the nose is less pronounced in the mouth. Herbal and umami notes come first and are only then joined – and drowned out – by the generous sweetness. Excellent continuation of the nose.

The finish is long and spicy. Keeps the mouth nicely warm until the end and then makes it a bit dry.

Fine BenRiach, especially considering the age. Best of all: less than 50 EUR! Thank you, Manny.
