Some three years ago I tried my first Connemara Distillers Edition. Contrary to most releases of this peaty Irish, this one is bottle not at 40% but at 43%. That gives it just a tad more body in my opinion. Moreover this was finished in oloroso sherry casks. My buddy Pat offered me this sample of a Distillers Edition from October 2017.

The nose offers lots of agrum on a soft blanket of smoke. Some stock fish shines through, as does some smoked ham and pecan nuts. But it is mostly fresh, fruity and sweet.

The arrival is very soft with just a tad of spices (less than I remember from the previous batch). The peat smoke grows, but still cannot compete with the fruit, mostly from the citrus family. Midpalate a lovely salty note appears, but it cannot beat the bittersweet notes. Very quaffable indeed.

The finish is medium long, sweet versus salty, while the smoke gently fades.

Very accessible and affordable Connemara, that makes you enjoy the sherry influence. Thanks, Pat!
