The Nectar, one of the most important importers on the Belgian market, bottled this 20 years old Glenlossie through Signatory, the famous independent bottler from Pitlochry. The hogshead yielded 308 bottles at 46%.

Hang on… this is Glenlossie? That ‘little malt’ that produces mostly for the blenders? Oh, my, then this surely is rather atypical, but in a good way. The summery fruit is there, but it is soon overcome by candlewax, woodsmoke and juicy tangerines. Honey, beeswax, Doyenné pears, coconut… peat? What is going on here? But oh, so good, this nose, make no mistake.

Wonderfully creamy and sweet, but again that atypical edge returns immediately. There is no other description that comes to mind than ashes. Did this Glenlossie mature on an Islay cask? Chalk, peat smoke and sniffing tobacco run amok. The fruit translates into peach, apples and a truckload of tangerines. And it is absolutely stunning.

The finish continues in the same fashion with a surprisingly smoky death.

Stunner! Taste this blind and you will never think of Glenlossie, I would wager my right arm. Grand whisky with loads of Islay notes. Great cask selection.
