Scotch is an acquired taste. For me, in the beginning, it was a no, I don't love you, I hate you relationship. My relationship with the single malt started when I was in the airforce and lost a bet. My pennance, was to down, not sip, a single malt. Back then my drink of choice was beer. I was 22 and my taste buds were still maturing, Long story short, I hated everything about scotch. It was like drinking gasoline soaked in a dirty sock. As the night went on, for some reason I tried it again... nope same result, yech.

Fast forward a few years and I'm offered another single malt. My mind must have blocked out my previous experience with what I had often referred to as the "devil's brew". I took what I was offered and after the first sip (apparently "downing it" is not the way to drink scotch)I was hooked. It was an "oh my moment". I asked my host what it was and his reply was "Lagavulin 16 year old". Talk about taking on the "big dog in the barnyard" first time out. That was it for me, my drink of choice was the single malt. Over the years I have tried many single malts. Some I've liked and some not so much. One thing I've learned is one person's poison may be another's nectar...so when I read a less than positive review...I just smile and say...their poison...perhaps it's my nectar.

Beside collecting single malts, my other passion is golf. In my opinion the 2 go hand in hand
