My usual preference is to reach for a high powered Islay. Big smoke and peat and cask strength is my preference. I have wondered back to the more “refined” whiskies from the lowlands, speyside and the highlands. I am still learning to appreciate and really “taste” the subtleties and flavors from other regions. It is a work in progress but I think I am getting there.
