Again, I'm trying an independent bottling of Port Ellen, this time from the well-known and respected German Indie Malts of Scotland. This one was distilled in the last year of operation and matured in a sherry butt. By the looks of it, that must have been a re-fill sherry butt. A very pale Port Ellen indeed!

I know I'm repeating myself when I say I get peat and citrus on the nose. But that's just the way it is. Although the citrus does take charge and renders this dram a tad bitter. Lime peel. A bit fruity as well (I even have some banana!) and quite a bit of almonds.

Oh... this dram rolls over the tongue with a sensuality that you'll not easily forget. Frisky and yet mature. Quite smoky and briny, but also soft as silk. I will not dishonor this Port Ellen by adding water (it doesn't really need it, despite the ABV of 56%). It is quite literally a caress to the tongue (I have a broad smile on my face as I put this to paper, nuff said!).

The finish is long, smoky and brackish.

This is easily one of the best Port Ellen I've tasted so far.
