The label states Aberlour-Glenlivet, which refers to the period in which many Speyside distilleries added the name Glenlivet on their labels. This is a vatting of two bourbon hogsheads that together yielded 522 bottles.

The nose is soft, sweet and very accessible. I get mostly vanilla, oranges, freshly cut grass and – don’t laugh – a drop of blood. I kid you not. This reminds me of a bloody nose. A twig of mint keeps it fresh. The association with fruit is apples and pears. Some aniseed in the background. Nice!

It is creamy and mouth coating with a malty heart. The fruit evolves towards the darker varieties such as raisins and dades. Oranges stay in the lead. Raspberry maybe? The spices are much louder now. Think chili pepper and some cinnamon.

The finish is fairly long and spicy with the oranges reappearing.

Wonderful Aberlour that tends towards oranges liqueur but with a lot more depth.
