Picked up a bottle for a party last weekend. My friends were drinking it on ice, but I added some soda water and a slice of lemon. It's pretty good for the average palate but I'm spoiled so I wasn't terribly impressed . . . but . . . for $20, you get what you pay for.

Nose: confectioner's sugar, wet straw, clover blossoms, grain alcohol.

Taste: a touch of peat, grain alcohol, sugar cookie dough, artificial caramel.

Finish: short and with a slightly unpleasant taste that reminded me a little of Cutty Sark.

I don't regret my purchase. I left the bottle at my friend's house and that was a nice touch. He and our friends liked it, so I'm happy.

For ten bucks more, Monkey Shoulder is much better.

This whisky is more peaty and "scotchlike" than some bottom shelf offerings. Actually, I like it on ice with soda better than Johnnie Walker Red, which has an unpleasant "sharp" flavor to me that tastes even more fake then Banknote even though Banknote has 40% grain alcohol in it and Walker Red doesn't.

It's probably perfect for hoisting to party where nobody really cares a lick about quality whisky and then leaving it behind. Well played.

I just had it once at tasting and was thoroughly unimpressed. I can't see what the K&L blog guys are so excited about. (Though to be fair, they're excited about everything!)

I don't believe KL hype any more. They're usually just trying to make $$$$

Yeah, for sure. Myannoyingopinions has reviewed a lot of their exclusive single casks, which has popped some of the proverbial balloons they were trying to float. From what I can tell, K&L is basically a well stocked store that carries some unusual stuff at decent prices and ships across state lines. So that's great but not unique.

I do still get a bang out of their blog, though. You just gotta take it with a fisky-sized grain of salt.
