Peter Affenzeller is an Austrian dat recently started distilling whisky. He was born in 1986 but has quite some products to show already. Besides the White, which is basically his new make, he also released a single malt, single grain, a blend and a whisky liqueur. Let us begin at the beginning and try the White first. It was cut to 42% as are all their products (bar the liqueur).

The nose is very sweet and reminds me more of grappa or liqueur than new make. I get marzipan and coconut, cuberdons, but what jumps out is chocolate. And a bit of mint. Totally different than many of the Scottish new makes that I have tried, but pleasant nonetheless.

Fairly sharp arrival, but softens up immediately. Very creamy and mildly spicy, but honeysweet. Chocolate returns, albeit with a liqueur filling.

Medium long finish, but sweet, sweet, sweet! My teeth almost fall out of my mouth!

I would recommend having this straight or mix it in a cocktail. I have tried much, much worse stuff than this! Thanks, Niek and Ilse!
