Ardmore 17 Year Old 1992 Chieftain’s

Did you know that Ardmore is still an important component of the popular Teachers blend? But it is quite nice as single malt as well. This 17 Year Old from 1992 was bottled by Ian MacLeod Distillers under their well-known Chieftain’s Choice label.

The nose is again quite Islay-like. Sweet fruit with a wonderful salty lining. Citrus, apple and juicy pineapple are upholstered with sweet peat and tar. Very much like a Caol Ila. Some candle wax and mild spices. Wonderful!

Good body. Very oily on the palate and immediately very feisty. All kinds of spices from white pepper to nutmeg and a pinch of salt. The oak has done its job, without dominating too much. Not an inch of bitterness or tannins to be found here. The fruit is less prominent, but that cannot dampen our spirits. This is very good.

The finish is not really long, but remains sweet versus salt.

Ardmore as I like it. It is also one of the best things I have tasted from the Chieftain’s Choice range.
