Already quite a few casks of Arran 1996 have been released. This cask, number 1978, was filled on 11 December 1996 and bottled on 7 May 2012, especially for the Belgian market.

It shows a syrupy sweet nose with pear drops, almond paste, beeswax, plum marmelade and pineapple on the grill. Slightly mineraly and very creamy. Not a sherry bomb, but perfectly dosed.

It has a good body and fills the mouth with a wonderfully sweet, almost rum-like nectar. Sirop the Liege, but also apple sauce and almond flakes. Spicy, too. As far as I am concerned, this does not need water.

The finish is rather short, but remains spicy and sweet.

If I had tasted this blind, I might have confused it with a good rum. This is one of the better Arran I have tasted so far. Around 65 EUR.

I have the 12 year Arran Sherry Cask and it is unimpressive aside from the high alcohol content. With water it's okay, but not great. It's good to hear the 15 is better.
