Berry Brothers & Rudd from London has already brought six Auchentoshan to the market. This is one of their more recent releases, a 17 Year Old from 1996. The pale color strongly suggests a bourbon cask.

The nose is quite closed and needs hand warmth to open up. Barley sugars, grasses, citrus fruit, vanilla and some nougat. Some wild flowers and a handful of gooseberries. Nothing earth shattering, but nothing amiss either. The longer you wait, the sweeter it becomes. Then some caramel and chocolate kick in.

The body is quite light, yet mouth coating. Sweet, fresh and a touch spicy. Quite zesty, even. Lemongrass, grapefruit, heathery flowers. White bread. From the second sip on it becomes really pleasant. A typical spring dram, perfect as aperitif.

Good (and surprisingly long) finish on citrus and spices.

Nice, nice, nice. Textbook Auchentoshan.
