Douglas Laing has already bottled a few Auchentoshan and today we are trying a distillate from 1979, that was bottled in 2004. It is one of their oldest (they also have a 25 Year Old from 1978 and I will try their 33 Year Old from 1967 later this week). This 25 Year Old Auchentoshan was a gift from Danny. Thanks, D!

The nose can be described in a single word: tropical! Silky soft with all kinds of exotic fruits, banana first and foremost. Papaya, mango, peach, but also quince. Evolves towards white fruit. Pear and the skins of green apples. Hints of grapes, sweetener and soft spices. This is very, very good!

The attack is fiery, revealing the delicate character with citrus and vanilla before the tropical fruits get in full gear. Mouthcoating, creamy and luscious. Whiff of woodspice.

The finish is medium long on fading spices and a wonderful sweetness that ends in a mildly bitter note. Wow!

This refill bourbon cask was clearly of the highest quality. The spirit from 1979 most likely as well. Got to get me a bottle of this. Top whisky!
