First off, I have to admit: I'm really into Auchentoshan. My cabinet is proof of that. I'm getting the 1988 Bordeaux Finish (£105) as well as the 1978 Bourbon Matured (£355) for my 40th birthday next year. Nuff said.

I recently had the 12 Year Old (see my review) and simply couldn't pass up the chance to taste the 10 Year Old again, albeit from a miniature. Last time I had this one was in 2008 and I couldn't remember much about that experience.

This triple distilled Lowlander isn't bad at all.

The nose is very sweet, much like the 12 Year Old. In fact, it's very similar in all aspects, also on the palate and the finish.

And yet. Something is missing.

The 12 Year Old was definitely more enchanting to me. More chewy and with a cleaner nose. Less character in the 10 Year Old.

Really looking forward to your reviews of the 1988 Bordeaux Finish and the 1978 Bourbon matured!

In fact, I'm not at all sure I'll be opening the 1978 Bourbon Matured... The Bordeaux Finish, no problem.

Although this is a good dram its a long way short of the 12yo, a rather short finish but worth trying....
