I tried this Auchroisk, selected by Bert Bruyneel, for the first time during our annual whisky dinner and after that poured it myself a tasting I hosted, but so far I have not made any notes. Time to rectify the situation. This is a bottling from Asta Morris.

The nose is malty with wilde flowers, freshly cut grass, honey and loads of wood. Sugared lemon peel. Touch of mint. Heather. Coconut. Licquorice, aniseed and honey. Quite creamy, almost fatty. But malt and wood are the main players.

It is feisty and creamy and rather drying on the palate. Somewhat more fruity than on the nose and nicely seasoned. A grapefruit or green tea bitterness emerges. A hefty helping of pepper and liquorice. It is again rather fatty.

The long finish is sweet (vanilla) and drying (oak).

Bert did it again in bottling something special. Thanks to Jos for the sample.
