Founded in 1824 this Speyside distillery became one of the first legally run distilleries in Scotland. The original name was Balminoch originates from the Gaelic 'Am Baile Meadhnach' meaning 'the middle farm'. In 1987 the distillery was renamed Balmenach Glenlivet Distillery Company.

In 1992, the first and only official in house bottling was released in the form of Balmenach 12 Yr old. The bulk of the spirit is used in premium blends including Johnnie Walker.

This is an independent bottling from Douglas Laing and is a 10 yr old single malt, matured in a refill hogshead Cask 9864 for 10 years. Distilled in the autumn of '02 and bottled in the summer '13.

Nose, honey, malt, apples.

Honey, oak, apples, soft, barley.

White pepper, warming spice, lingering and sweet. Medium long.

A terrific dram. I was surprised how much I like this.
