This Balvenie was distilled on 5 September 1997 and bottled on 4 February 2013. Few people know that founder William Grant originally wanted to name this distillery Glen Gordon and that the initial materiel was purchased from Lagavulin and Glen Albyn. The first single malt did not appear until 1973. She can be found right next to sister distilleries Glenfiddich and Kininvie. Anyway, let us get started on this 15 Year Old.
The nose is soft and floral. White fruit (apple, pear) with a hint of pineapple. Caramel. Light pepper. Touch of woodsmoke that gives it a great depth.
On the palate, it is honeysweet. Sugared breakfast cereals. Some more white fruit, but now baked and sprinkled with syrup. Hints of nuts. Midpalate, some citrus emerges. Grapefruit.
The finish is long and creamy, but damn sweet.
Quite a nice Speysider, but a little too sweet to my taste.

Hi Mark, I recently got this very same batch, but find it medium sweet / bordering on sweet, to be honest. Perhaps it changes after a while, after uncorking, or is sweeter with added water...
Tastes differ of course - I assume Arran and young Aberlour are even sweeter than this to you, right?
