When I say Speyside’s Finest, you will probably think Glenfarclas first. While there is a good chance, this does not have to be the case. Beacon Spirits succeeded in securing 54 bottles of this undisclosed malt. At the time of writing, their stock was depleted, despite the price tag of 295 EUR per bottle.

The is a veritable fruit bomb! The nose offers apricots, juicy mango, kumquats, oranges, guava, … very tropical and very inviting. Bergamot oil, beeswax and a hint of eucalyptus. The nose reveals the age with hints of a dusty attic. Nice. Round and rich. Delightful!

Wonderfully oily on the palate and immediately fruity and spicy. The oranges arrive first, sweet and powerful, before the rest of the fruit kicks in. The oak speaks as well, but never does the palate turn bitter, dry or oaky. Nope, this one remains smooth and round. Tobacco leaves? The eucalyptus evolves towards fresh mint. Hint of chocolate. After Eight candy.

The oak rears its head once more in the wonderfully long finish.

Glenfarclas? Very likely. But this could just as well be Linkwood or Caperdonich for all I know. A big thank you to Bert for the sample of this magnificent Speysider!
