Benriach 16 Year Old Sauternes Finish

This summer, I visited my friend @Expensivevino, where I got to taste this BenRiach. It matured for about 15 years in American oak and was then finished in wine casks from Château D’Yquem Premier Cru Supérieur Sauternes from the French Bordeaux region.

Very fruity nose with apple, pear and melon, but also slightly tropical. Pineapple, maybe? The whole is sprinkled with cinnamon.

It is creamy on the palate and very spicy (white pepper and nutmeg). Very sweet on vanilla and fruit. Apart from the white fruit from the nose, I also get peach, Indian fig and apricots.

The finish is rather short, but pleasantly sweet and grainy.

I have had Edradour, Tullibardine and GlenDronach with a Sauternes finish before. My favourite remains the GlenDronach, with this BenRiach and the Tullibardine in close pursuit. But I remember enjoying it more last summer. I guess it just isn’t the season for this type of dram right now.
