Bladnoch is one of the 6 remaining Lowland distilleries, and is located the most southerly whisky distillery in Scotland. The 19 yr old is now discontinued and has been replaced by a 20 yr old version.
For this review I used a Glencairn and the bottle has been open for several months.
Nose - Initially you get a dry spiciness with sweet vanilla and Orange zest. There is a sherry influence and a tang of oak Overall this is a good nose and whilst it is 55% the alcohol doesn't overpower you.
Palate - Smooth and creamy. Thick sweet honey, fruity with cherries, dates and oranges. Spicy oak and vanilla. Nicely balanced, not too sweet, not bitter but warming.
Finish - medium long with slightly nutty edge. Spced tingle right in the middle of the tongue.
Well made, well balanced. A golod example of a cask strength ex-bourbon and sherry finished lowland.

Was this a recent official bottling or a Diageo release or IB? My understanding was that Diageo owned all the stocks from the time it was mothballed to when it was reopened by Raymond Armstrong. It's too old to be an Armstrong distillate. But the ABV is typical of of his releases.
Just curious...
