This Blair Athol is a quarter of a century old and was bottled by the Dutch Van Wees. It is a refill sherry butt that yielded no less than 394 bottles at drinking strength. It is very, very dark, revealing an active cask.

OMG! This is what I call deep sherry. Plums, cherries, dades, figs, blackberries, raisins, tobacco and the leather of an old Chesterfield. Spicewise I get cinnamon and cloves. It also has an edge that is somewhat chemical. Furniture polish? Wood glue? But it is not disturbing in the least. This is a great nose!

The whisky offers all the fruit from the nose on the palate. This was a refill cask? Djeezes! This is a truly heavily sherried Blair Athol. Midplate the spices become very loud, especially the pepper. The oak rears its head as well and makes it a tad dry. But it remains absolutely great.

In the wonderfully long finish, the tobacco and plums return.

If you love a sherried whisky, then this is right up your alley. Thanks, Wim!
