Typical of this Raw Cask-series by Blackadder is the cask sediment you find in each bottle. Hence the name, of course. This Bowmore from 1989 was recently launched by Robin Tucek and his team. It is very pale, which makes me think it was a somewhat tired sherry cask.

I get the typical maritime Bowmore notes on the nose, accompanied by a load of citrus, vanilla and light touches of peach. Some camphor and salt. Seaweeds too. Wave breakers. Fairly sweet and quite attractive. Almost no peat to speak off on the nose.

It is very feisty and creamy and initially a lot more sweeter than expeceted. Very fruity start. Guess the sherry cask was not as tired as I thought. It then turns very salty. Slightly smoky. Nice development. Light oak. Good balance. Does not need water.

The long finish is soft and spicy, with a brackish, but wonderfully smoky death.

Great cask selection. Thanks, Jeroen, for the sample.
