Let us get the controversy around the price of this release out of the way first. 300 EUR for a half bottle (so 600 EUR for a full bottle of a 27 Year Old Bowmore) is something I cannot afford. So I am very happy that I got a sample. That is all I want to say about it. The Angel’s Choice is a series from Malts of Scotland that contains truly exclusive whiskies. It is the oldest Bowmore that this bottler from Paderborn has released at this point. Great color!

OMG! The nose is of a deep sherry als seldom seen (or smelled). Apple sauce, plum pie, jam pastry, raspberries and even some grenadine. The maritime elements of Bowmore are barely present (I said barely, so they certainly are there, even a medicinal touch). Luckily the same can be said of the lavender you get in many a Bowmore from the 1980s. No problems there. I do get some (do not laugh please) geraniums in the background. Even some curry ketchup (seriously, I am not joking around here). What a grand nose.

What a soft fellow on the palate! It veritably glides over the tastebuds. Almost creamy, a bit fatty even. But oh so fruity again. Raspberry jam, plums and apples. Touch of Turkish Delight. Tobacco? Great! And all of this wrapped in a soft blanket of smoke.

I find a wonderful balance between the fruitiness of the sherry cask and the peaty spirit of Bowmore. Magnificent!

I wish I could say that this one is okay-but-not-top-notch, so that I could console myself for not being able to afford it. But it is simply fantastic. Damn!
