I have not tried the previous batches of this whisky but have found most Bowmores I have tasted lately a bit lacking in depth (except Laimrig..how I wish I could get another bottle)

When the most recent batch landed on local shelves I pulled the trigger and have not regretted this at all

When first opened the smell made my eyes water or was that tears of joy...

nose: Apricots, vinyl upholstery, sea spray, honey coughdrops, papaya/baby sick, wet campfire. Oyster brine, ripe banana, barley sugar, flinty.

Palate: really juicy, vanilla, oyster liquor, creamy, burnt sugar, buckwheat honey, smoky, marmelade (smoked), wet oak and moss

With water it tames the big alcohol mouth and brings out more of the tropical note and a more flinty/wet rock side.

The balance on this whisky is excellent it's got a big mouthfeel and a great flavor profile. It's a bit too much on the oak manipulation but that can easily be forgiven because of all the beautiful stormy shit happening and is still fairly young.

I have made two serious mistakes so far in 2016. One was not buying two of these when I had the chance (all gone now) and the other was not buying two bottles of Laphroaig 2015 Cairdeas before they all disappeared from the shelves. Nice review, thanks. I might have tweaked the score up closer to 90. Cheers.

@BlueNote It's a great whisky really showcasing power and nuance, there's still quite a few bottles of the Tempest around here, I can track one down for you if you so wish.

You guys are killing me with the Cairdeas 2015...it's that good? I have one unopened bottle and now I'm frantically trying to get a second one to curb my regret.

Tweaked the score I had another dram last night.

Cheers

Thanks for the offer @cricklewood. I see we are on opposite sides of the country. I have a friend heading to Calgary soon and I've got him on a mission to find any or all of the following: Laimrig, Tempest VI, Cairdeas 2015 (yes, it is that good). If not he can just bring me a bunch of Lag 16 and Uigeadail. Cheers.

@cricklewood and @BlueNote I had made a reolution to cut back a bit on purchases. Then this thread reared its' ugly head. Had already placed a bottle of Tempest Vl and Cairdeas 2015 on hold at a Manitoba Liquor outlet 50 Klicks away. Went to pick them up today and Bluenotes regret started eating away at me. Got home with 2 of each. Also person looking after my putting the first two on hold had contacted an outlet in Winnipeg and one of the reps is bringing a bottle of Bowmore Devil's cask ll out for me next week. It was an expensive day but I felt lucky to get these as they are in short supply here in Manitoba.I really enjoy the Tempest series, Cairdeas 2015 supposed to be very good as noted above and I have a few drams left in a Devil's Cask that was very good as well.Wife not home this aft, bottles in bunker. Don't want her to know my resolution omly lasted 3 weeks! Jonesz

Nice one @Jonesz. You did the right thing. And, hey, sometimes a little marital deception is your best option. Any Laimrig in Manitoba?

@Jonesz - Let's be clear, I've said I enjoy Laimrig time after time, I have not been enjoying it time after time...otherwise I would be out.

I believe I like the Tempest (V) just as much (though they are both different). Sadly no Laimrig sold here in (I believe) 2 years)

@Jonesz sorry to make you break your resolution but sometimes the heart wants what it wants,ha!

Wish I could get my hands on some Laimrig, sadly all gone in QC and Ontario. I think I like it slightly more than the Tempest it ticks off all the right boxes for me, my bottle disappeared in a blink of an eye after sharing with some friends.

Would anyone like to hear me say again how much 2015 Cairdeas we're tripping over on the shelves here in Madison, WI? Everyone's got tons of it and it's about $75 every place you look.

OIJas that's an incredible price for Cairdeas 2015, I'd buy gallons of it if I could get it for 75 dollars. Unfortunately it's £219 over here.I wonder why there's such a massive price differential between our countries for this Laphroaig. Very frustrating and annoying!

what a difference! I guess given the dollar's slump (ours) we got a good deal at 100 CAD

Nozinan everybody's having a good deal apart from Laphroaig's UK customers. I'm actually really annoyed that they are ripping off the domestic market to such a large extent!

sorry to hear that. If there were a couple more expressions like that you'd be better off flying here and buying them....

Of course if you did this, I would invite you for a special tasting session with a few Toronto Connosrs...

Blimey @maltmate, that's the equivalent of around $450 Canadian. It was $100 here in Vancouver and I'm kicking myself for not loading up. Sadly, it's all gone now and I'm about 1/4 of the way into mine. Same story on the Tempest VI.

We still have some of the Tempest V here in Ontario and it's $82. That is a great price for a 10 YO CS peaty bruiser but it's still $82 so there is a limit as to how much one can load up on. I have an open bottle and one spare. It is fantastic. I'm happy to try to pick some up for anyone who can't and plans to be in the Toronto area in the next 1-2 years.

@Nozinan I would certainly be very happy to get one of these Bowmore Tempest. We could do an exchange at the Presummit Toronto tasting. That would be very kind of you.
