Bottled in 2006, this one is a doozy. No, it's not as farmy and smoky as some other erstwhile Brora's, but it was absolutely a stunner. I loved every drop of the stuff.

Nose: Caramel, decadently rich barley grain, hint of peat, heather, indefinable magic.

Palette: Marzipan, caramel, smoke, sea salt, hay, butter brickle, Anjou pear, masterful blending of other less definable flavors in a truly amazing way.

Finish: Toffee, biscuit, nougat, light smoke, gentle peat, sweet cream, autumn rain in a stand of oak trees.

The finish lasted 33.3 seconds on my tongue. I timed it and did not look at my phone when I stopped the stop watch. The number caught me off guard. Weird.

To make matters worse, when I took a picture of the whisky in my glass a few minutes later, three ghoulish faces appeared in the recorded image, as if reflected in the glass.

The bartender was so struck by the disconcerting likenesses, that she asked me to text her a copy of the photograph from my I-phone. I really don't understand why people like this type of thing so much. I wish it hadn't happened to me.

I would post a copy of the ghoulish pic from my photobucket account here in this review, but I don't know how to do it without allowing access to my whole photobucket library, which has some private photos in it. If somebody knows how to post one pic, I would be happy to email it to them.

Truly, the pic was utterly bizarre and spooky. Mick, the owner, chuckled when he saw the photo on my phone and said it must be ghosts from the closed Brora distillery. He then took me into the back room and showed me a nice big photograph on the wall of the old Brora distillery. I believe the photograph shows the distillery after it has been mothballed.

Other people in the bar who wanted to see the photo were a little spooked by it. I guess the pub (Highland Stillhouse) is rumored to be haunted. It is a very old building by Oregon standards.

I added no water to this glass, nor did it need any. The bottle was approximately half empty after my glass was poured. I don't know how long it has been open. I don't know the ABV.

Wow that is creepy.. and awesome.. the one on the far right (our right) looks Simian in nature (think Planet of the Apes). All three appear to be hooded and quite sinister looking. Like the ringwraiths (Nazgul) from Lord of the Rings.. thanks for sharing!

Yes, the one in the middle (I think you saw it as far right) appears to have horns, as well. The warped one on the far right has horns and looks like an animal skull to me. Here is another photo of the Brora. Also, I will post two of the Rosebank that I took. They also might have some weird images in them. I'm not sure.

This second Brora photo kind of appears to have a creatures head with glowing white eyes in the middle. There is also a weird fleshy face in the lower right that looks like the Mon Calamari commander from Star Wars a little bit.

I know I'm reaching to some extent here, but I really have no idea who so many weird images appeared in this glass of Brora. There are also dark reddish figures on the right side. They are not really much, but just hints of interesting shapes.

Here is one last photo of the Brora. This one seems normal to me, although it is very nice with the stained glass window shining through it in a sort of abstract way.

Ah yes I totally missed that skull which is in fact the far right - I initially saw that as maybe an "ear" on the Simian creature but I now see it as a skull. So in fact I see 4 figures. The one on the far left appears to have animal features (narrow face).

I haven't seen anything in the next two photos you've posted. I do however love that one with the stained glass background, great photo!

Having never had the Brora experience, how would you compare this with Clynelish? Do they strike you as distant relations? Sounds quite nice.

This one was more like Glenfarclas 21 than Clynelish 14. Better than Farc 21 but more rich and malty than Clynelish. I have a few atypical Clynelishes that might compare. When I review them and open them I will address any parallels with the Brora I tasted.

It's been a while since I've tasted a Clynelish. Tonight, I'll head over to Vintage Cocktail on SE Stark St. in Portland OR and taste a Clynelish 14. Later, I will post my comparison between that and the Brora 24 here in the comments section. The Clynelish may be more malty than I can recall. I will see. I will say that the smoky/peaty side to the Conn Choice was less pronounced than I'd expected and certainly less than with other Broras that I'm familiar with. I like Vintage Cocktail. They are the only bar in town with half glasses of scotch offered at half price. A really nice option if you want to taste a few more scotches and still be able to drive home at the end of the evening.

It's four years later, and Connosr now allows you to post pictures directly. @Rigmorole , any chance you still get updates from here when you're mentioned? Care to post the pics again? The old links no longer work. And besides, it's Halloween season!
