Liquid Sun is a German label, the other label behind the boys and girls of The Whisky Agency, who have bottled quite a few gems already. This is a heavily peated Laddie of only 9 years old. Makes me wonder if this might rather be a Port Charlotte or Octomore. Those mash bills are distilled at Bruichladdich as well and are pretty peaty. Well, there are no 9 year old Octomore, are there? So it might still be Port Charlotte (remember PC9). Let me put that next to it.

Well, the are totally different. The nose of this (let us call it) Bruichladdich shows a whole lot of peat, the good stable scents, plasticine, cough syrup and a hefty helping of fresh mint. Vanilla and lemon and even some crystal sugar in the background. Very clean and creamy and in my opinion a whole lot better than the slightly sourish PC9.

It is soft on the palate with sweet peat, ashes and loads of vanilla. Very spicy too. Camphor, pepper, ginger, liquorice and some chili. It cannot hide its young age, though, but dares you to critisize it. Midpalate, citrus rears its head.

The finish is long and zesty with a salty tang at the very end.

Port Charlotte or simply a heavily peated Laddie. Who will tell? Who cares? This is a young, but very sturdy whisky. Thanks to Jeroen at Whiskysamples (where it is still available) for the near empty bottle.
