This Buffalo Trace offering is surprisingly good. I know, I know, it's reputation precedes it. In the past, I wasn't terribly impressed with the 107. But lately, with Pappy Van Winkles being so hard to find, I've started to embrace Ye Olde 107.

Even the Old Weller 12 used to be easy to find in Portland, Oregon. Not so any longer. But the Antique 107 is picking up the slack fairly well, at least for me. I tend to like one bourbon open in my scotch collection, which usually features a sweet bottle, a peat, and a savory bottle of scotch.

Here are my tasting notes:

Color: Deep chestnut, very nice shade and depth indeed!

Nose: Baking spices like "allspice," a hint of pumpkin pie in fact; cinnamon, baked red apples, brown sugar, pie crust.

Mouth: Far less complex than the nose; Apples, cherries, cinnamon, oak, no caramel to speak of (as in the Pappys line and the 12 YO Old Weller), cardamom.

Finish: Fairly long; yes, it's a medium finish, but the wood and cinnamon linger on, refusing to "die" with a very pleasantly subdued phantom hint of the palate.

The 107 is a decent enough bargain if it can be found for under $30. Some people say they like the Elmer T. Lee more; not me, I think I like the 107 just a smidge more than the Lee.

*Disclaimer: I've heard tell that Buffalo Trace is technically more of a bottler than a distiller. If this is indeed the case, I would like to know. I suspect that it is the case. I treated this review as though I were reviewing the 107 as a whiskey made by Buffalo Trace because I really don't know for sure what to think and Old Weller is not listed as a distiller in Connosr's database.

Buffalo Trace is indeed a distiller and a fine one at that. The Weller line is some of their best everyday pours.

I enjoyed this one as well. I think I bought mine for $25 though.
