The youngest Bunna release from the German Malts of Scotland was taken from a sherry butt. Judging by the color, it was quite an active cask. Because it is so young – only 14 years old – the cask yielded no less than 655 bottles, that will each come with a price tag of 90 EUR.

Dark and sweet on the nose on bitter chocolate, raisins and plums. It has a sharp edge – presumably from the oak. Cherry liqueur and Turkish Delight. Walnuts offer a mildly bitter touch. No peat that I can detect, but it is Bunna, to that is quite possibly the case.

The arrival is soft, the body is even quite light. Sweet on raisins, plums and chewing tobacco, but with a green, salty edge that quickly turns very bitter. Salty liquorice? Reminds me a bit of the vegetable broth of Maggi.

It becomes a bit nervous in the finish, if you know what I mean. The spices make it sharp, which the sweet sherry cask can no longer control.

Actually, this is quite an extreme Bunna, in my humble opinion. Close call. One or two more years in the cask and it would no longer be quaffable.
