Cameronbrigde was one of Scotland’s first distilleries to produce grain whisky. It was founded in 1824. Jim McEwan, of Bruichladdich fame, was asked to select casks for the Celtic Heartlands series. It contains among others a Bunna 1968, a Glenlivet 1977, a Coal Ila 1980, but also this 33 Year Old single grain from 1974.

The nose is very soft. Sweet as in chocolat, candied oranges with a creamy heart like a marshmallow. A juicy tangerine. A touch of oak, but no tannins. Somewhat toasted. Whipped egg white? Some caramel. This is wonderful.

The attack is spicy, mouth coating and creamy. The sweetness is more fruity than it was on the nose. Chocolate cookies with orange marmalade, honey and coconut. Ginger and nutmeg kick in. Nice balance.

Fairly long finish.

Impressive grain whisky. One of the best I have tried so far.
