Just a year younger than the standard bottling of Caol Ila 12 and much like the Provenance Laphroaig its very similar quality but in a slightly different way.

  • Nose: a light and delicate nose with smoked fish some light earth, coal smoke, rock salt, dark chocolate and a kind of bandage/ petrol note going on. With water a bit more muscular, more pronounced smoke and earth.

  • Pallet: a pretty soft arrival with not much delivery, just some light pepper, apple pie and coal smoke. With water still a little thin but now there is more of everything with added orange oil and barley sugar.

  • Finish: black pepper, honey, smoked fish coal dust and cold smoke. With water much the same but a bit beefier and longer

  • Mark neat – 8.1, with water – 8.5

The character of Caol Ila is preserved well in this whisky but its a bit different, not quite as fruity or sweet as the standard, and theres nothing wrong with that
