We already know that Malts of Scotland has some great Clynelish. The sistercasks 5894 and 5895, that I tasted eighteen months ago, are testament to that. This 28 Year Old is from the same year. Chances are it is just as good. That is a tall order, though, as the godly twins were sublime.

Yep, on the nose it is bulls eye from the start. A Han Solo smirk appears on my face. Very fruity and surprisingly crispy nose with ripe banana, melon, pineapple, gooseberry, lime and some pink grapefruit. Sweet malt and grain cookies. Beeswax, honey and vanilla. The whole is swathed in smoke. Sublime indeed!

It is creamy, almost buttery, on the palate. Mouthcoating and warming. Lot of pepper. Bodybuilder. Citrus and vanilla lead the pack, followed by the other fruit. The sweetness is damped by a slightly salty touch.

The finish is wonderfully long and the whisky dies a salty death. I cannot stop smacking my lips.

This is the kind of whisky you will want to nose for minutes before even contemplating drinking it. Wonderful. Tastewise: ditto. If you have been good, maybe Santa will bring you a bottle.
