A tribute to Littlemill’s innovative nature, in the 60’s the distillery owner experimented with lomond stills, water-jacket coolers and… peated expressions. Yes Littlemill did peat before it was cool! Dumbuck a heavily peated version and Dunglass, a lightly peated variant were in production for nearly a decade until 1972. Needless to say, Dunglass is as rare a whisky as they come, much sought after by collectors, less so by the connoisseurs. Apart from the official 5 yo expression, there have been very few independent releases and well they score lower on average than their much loved unpeated equivalents.

Description: distillation and bottling date unknown, matured for 5years, presumably bottled by Littlemill under own management.

Nose: fresh and grassy, a slightly sour aroma of barley, grain dust, and soft vanilla,. A whiff of apricots provides a fruity touch.

Mouth: definitely a light body, but the palate is really hard to pinpoint: slightly sour barley, caramel, peach, with a fair amount of alcohol?

Finish: wow, that’s just liquid pepper!

Verdict: light and simple but yet unfathomable, palate while not too potent doesn’t resemble anything familiar. If you get the chance have a sip, but I wouldn’t spend too much money on it.

I have to say I enjoy reading reviews like this one because I would never have even heard of this otherwise. I agree with you that these are worth tasting by virtue of their rarity, as part of a complete whisky journey.

thanks @Nozinan, I've been looking for the heavily peated Dumbuck edition far and wide, but it doesn't look like anyone has a sample or miniature available.
