DYC was founded in 1959 and has a huge factory in Segovia, near Madrid. Johnnie Walker, eat your heart out! They own 50% of the market in Spain. Their standard blend is this DYC. I tried it at a tasting before. The host probably thought to let us prepare the palate with something small.

The nose is light, sweet and straightforward. Loads of vanilla and a little bit of fruit (coconut and melon). Young, but soft.

The attack is light, but not watery at all. A lot of vanilla again, but also icing sugar and white fruit. A lot of malt. Turns a bit sharper midpalate and even mildly chemical. This blend leans towards grappa. Or a fruit eau-de-vie.

It all goes downhill fast in the finish, though. Short (good thing), bitter and sharp.

Mix or miss, I would say. Well, if you know this can be purchased in the Spanish supermarket for less than 10 EUR, you must not nag that it is a low end blend. But it is not as bad a JW Red Label.
