The last cask of Edradour from 1985, their oldest stock, was bottled in July 2011. So the label boldly states ‘Farewell to 1985 – Last Cask’. The whisky was finished on PX sherry. But what a cask that must have been if it still yielded 642 bottles after 26 years? Wow.

The nose is honeysweet with an absolute Oscar worthy performance of marzipan and the likes. Turkish delight, sugared almonds, icing sugar. Even a hint of guimauve that you do not come across often in whisky (in my experience). Chocolate with raisins and dried berries, like Cadbury. Popcorn! Where did that come from? If you have a sweet tooth, this is right up your alley.

Soft arrival on few spices, immediately very sweet, but with a sour element and light tannins, that make his lose my admiration in a flash. Black tea too long in the glass, albeit heavily sweetened, that is what I compare it with.

Medium long finish that, unfortunately, becomes very bitter.

Fantastic nose, but on the palate it goes downhill and in the finish it hits rock bottom. The nose alone is worth 84 in my book. What a shame!
