Since 1986, an Evan William Singel Barrel is released on a yearly basis. In my case, it is single barrel 973, filled on 13th November 2000 and bottled on the 19th October 2010, just shy of 10 years old. It is produced by Heaving Hill in Bardstown, Kentucky.

The nose is rather closed and needs quite some hand warmth, but once it opens up, I get nice overtones of tropical fruits. Coconut and pineapple in the lead. Caramel, honey, vanilla ice cream, mint and cinnamon make this a round and inviting nose. A truckload of milk chocolate emerges after a few minutes. The oak and the rye are whispering.

It is slightly oily on the palate, with honey to emerge first. Followed by citrus and vanilla. Midpalate, the rye rears its head: cinnamon and cloves. Quite a bit of mint, again. The oak now mumbles.

The finish is deliciously sweet and spicy and becomes somewhat drying. The mint and the oak sing.

You can get a bottle of this for less than 30 USD in the States. In Europe, it is a different story. Very nice and utterly quaffable bourbon.
