I've reviewed the Confederation Oak before (Lot 1867-B, if I remember correctly) but then I started noticing that there are different batches. This one is Batch "F".

The colour is a light copper. The nose is quite delicate featuring tropical fruits, soft rye spice, honey, caramel and vanilla. Peaches. Brazil nuts. Wet leather. Oak. Both nose and palate are gently maltier with water. A pleasure.

The palate is sweeter, candied even. Liquorice All-Sorts, candy corn, Mackintosh toffee. The honey is lighter than the nose. Underneath it all is that rye spice. Delicious.

The finish is long and spicy but features that annoying fuzzy Forty Creek prickliness (I don't know how else to describe it), with grapefruit pith and lumber. I distinctly remember Lot B (which I scored a 91) giving me a big cotton-candy note, which is missing here. Hence, Lot F is less distinctive but regardless, very enjoyable.

Currently my favourite Canadian (although my experience with Canadian spirit is admittedly sparse). I have a bottle of this open--same lot, too--so I'm going to pour a splash of this later on and compare my notes with yours. Will post here when I do.

Lot 1867 was my first foray into Canadian whisky and given its maturation in "Canadian oak" I've been quite patriotic. I opened a bottle of the original batch last fall and I have to admit it's still one of my favourite Canadians, but not my favourite anymore.

OK, I have a dram in my glencairn. This whisky has a very smooth, rounded mouthfeel, and the flavours are...layered. I can taste the vanilla talexander mentions, and caramel; the oak is there too, but muted--this is not bourbon.

Finish is long and yes, a bit spicy, but I detect no prickliness. Overall, I find this whisky to be sweet, but not too sweet, and complex, with a wonderful mouth feel and lasting finish. I agree with talexander's rating of 88 overall; I might bump it up a point to 89 or even 90. Worth having!
