This single grain by Scott’s Selection is one of the samples I scored at the Festival for Indepdent Bottlers on May 9th. It matured for 47 years on a bourbon cask. Girvan is a very young distillery, built in 1964 by William Grants, to provide grain whisky for the Grant’s Family Reserve and other company blends.

The nose is soft, grassy and smell of varnish. Light hints of honey and vanilla, but nothing much else. Rather closed nose, if you ask me.

It is equally soft on the palate, again with varnish and grass, but now it shows a little more life. Some marshmallows and pineapple cubes. Honey, again. Pleasant but not very complex. On second sips, I get some pears and lavender. The spices start to speak as well. Aniseed and hints of white pepper. No water needed.

The finish is short on aniseed and honey.

Truth be told, I expected more. Around 150 EUR.
