This is a recent German bottling of a 20 Year Old Glen Garioch, labelled The Whiskyman’s Dram, for the company of Dominiek Bouckaert. It is very pale, due to maturation on a refill hogshead.

The nose starts rather closed on a lot of spices, lemongrass and heather. It takes a while before some citrus reveals itself. I am reminded mostly of lime, but also wet stones. The smoke is present, but very discreet. Soft and accessible, but rather docile. Water add notes of earth.

It is nicely creamy on the palate and immediately very spicy. Ginger and mixed peppers. Less grass now (although it is still there), but a lot more fruit. Again lemon, but also lime and even some bittersweet grapefruit. Again that wonderful smokiness from the small amount of peat that was obviously used. It all becomes less outspoken if you add water. I prefer it undiluted.

The medium long, bittersweet finish ends with a mildly salty touch.

This is a bit like a diesel engine. Starts slowly on the nose, but once it is running on the tastebuds, there is no stopping it. I like it. Just do not add water. It will cost you around 100 EUR.
