This Glen Garioch is no less than 30 years old and thus produced in the old style, meaning I am expecting peat. It comes in a beautiful box and commands around 500 EUR. Surprisingly high alcohol percentage for such and oldie, if you ask me. It matured on bourbon casks.

The nose starts off pretty closed, but when warmed by hand it turns into a wonderful mix of stewed pears, mildly bitter oranges, brown bread, toasted oak and dark chocolate. It has a light medicinal side that must be from the peat. Softly spiced.

On the palate it is very creamy and extremely spicy. The fruit translates into Pink Lady appels and stewed fruit marmalade. Nicely warm! Zesty as well. Loads of woodsmoke. While the oak clearly speaks, it does not dominate. Touch of bitterness.

The finish is extremely long on cloves, white pepper and Seville oranges, but also some dried fruit.

Delicious old school Glen Garioch. Especially the nose was very attractive.
