This 1992 Cellar Reserve is something of an odd one out. Originally only available at the distillery, but the release of 13.542 bottles soon found its way to the market. It is 16 years old, but was not chill-filtered and bottled at a slightly higher ABV. Jim Murray gave this no less than 94,5 points in his 2010 edition of the Whisky Bible!

The nose is light and fruity, but less sweet than the regular 16 Year Old. Fresher. Honey, buttercups, heather, ripe pears, sugared fruit, hazelnuts and gooseberries. There is also a nice trace of smoke. Reminds me a bit of sweet white wine.

It is soft and creamy on the palate, with loads of white fruit, in a marmalade this time around, finished with some sugared orange peel. Very zesty and warmly spiced with ginger and cinnamon. Pretty smoky, too! Woodspice. Good balance.

In the finish, that is medium long, the smoke and hazelnuts return. Slightly bittersweet at the death.

I found the nose less than the regular 16, but on the palate and especially in the finish, it easily takes the lead. Very nice Speysider. Between 50 and 60 EUR.
