Another Glen Grant from 1969 – a year of which we know by now that it was absolutely superb fort his distillery. This is a 2009 bottling from Signatory, drawn from a fresh oloroso sherry cask. That sounds promising. The color is a stunning mahogany.

Kaboom! Just shy of a sherry monster, but so fruity. A four fruit fiesta! A marmalade of blackberries, strawberries, cherries and fresh figs, sprinkled with a very dark honey. A hint of chocolate milk underneath. Not a trace of oak. Let me check the label again. Yes, this is 40 years old. Could have fooled me.

On the palate, it remains fruity, but a slight bitterness does turn up. It is not disturbing in the least. The marmalade is present on the palate as well. And then suddenly some pine needles. Where did that come from. And a bit of furniture polish, it seems.

The spicy finish lasts forever.

Wow, another great Glen Grant, that really shames the official core-range.
