With all the NAS whiskies on the market today, it is almost unthinkable that major whiskies brands used to release budget age-statements as low as 5yo. Dufftown, Blair Athol, Glen Scotia, they all had their immature entry level releases in the 70’s and 80’s. I already reviewed some of those here, most were either a bore or simply disgusting. Time to give another one a try, put your hands together: a Glen Grant toddler is entering the arena. This miniature has one of the earliest label designs for Glen Grant, so presumably this miniature was released somewhere in the late 70’s or early 80’s. Larger bottles used to feature an exact vintage year, but on these smaller ones they remain absent.

Description: official bottling from Glen Grant, matured for 5 years, bottled at 40% ABV.

Nose: eeuhm, a bouquet of lemon accompanied by a hint of lemon? No, this is just the plain and simple aroma of lemon tea, with maybe just a whiff of IPA.

Mouth: medium bodied, with little to no sign of those lemons on the palate. It is a briny, olive-oil-like substance, with a regrettable metallic side note to it.

Finish: much longer than I expected: first a fair dash of pepper, later those lemons again, however now they do taste more like limoncello.

Verdict: expectations were low and no this dram did not amaze me in any way, it is just a bland one dimension whisky with really has nothing to offer. That being said, it is not unpleasant or foul in any way, so you can safely use it to improve your coke or use it for your cocktail sauces.
