Glen Grant 25 Year Old bottled 1970s

This 25 Year Old Glen Grant (poured from a screwcapped 750ml bottle) was put to market a few decades ago by the oldest bottler in Scotland, Gordon & Macphail. I wonder if it can stand the test of comparison with the new versions.

The nose is wonderfully fruity with banana peel at the front. Some more fruit and breakfast biscuits. Yes, this reminds me of the baby bowl of fruit that you feed the little ones. Sans the alcohol, évidemment. Hints of mandarin and some malt. Slightly dusty. Quite straighforward, but very good indeed.

On the palate, it is fairly light, both bodywise and spicewise. A little shy, actually. Slightly drying as if from a fruit tea, with chocolate cakes with orange marmalade. Cinnamon and peach. Banana, again. Pleasant.

The finish is not very long, nor short. Banana until the drying end.

This is the perfect company for a banana dessert. Apart from that, it is a nice, but not complex, malt.
