Tasting Notes by markjedi1

Glen Keith will be reopened next year. That is good news for the fans of this fruity Speysider. But will Chivas Brothers create the same whisky as before? This independent bottling from Germany is only a few months shy of 20 years and matured on an American oak barrel, whatever that means. Is it a bourbon cask or a virgin oak cask? Who can tell?

Fruity and sweet, that is how I would describe the nose. Malt, sugar candy, vanilla, upholstered with gooseberry and caramelized apple and pineapple cubes. Dried flowers. But it definitely shows an overdose of toffee. Milk chocolate! Fairly complex and oh, so good. I love this.

Round and creamy on the palate, making me happy. Even fruitier now, with some citrus and exotic fruit to join the apple and pineapple. Mango, mirabels, melon. The toasted oak gives it a bitter edge, perfectly dosed. Nicely spiced as well. Pepper, ginger, liquorice, even a touch of chili.

The finish is warm and long, feisty on toffee, citrus and spices.

This is a wonderful Glen Keith and the best bottling I have come accross from this Indie until today. 91 EUR? Well, a point for every euro. It is that good.
