Nose: Here we are on sherry, varnished leather, roasted coffee grinds, and attending cocoa. Wax, giving a pseudo-smoky quality, and mustiness. More on chocolate with time, and there is clear jammy fruit tucked away. Cherry latrices and strawberry-rhubarb compote. This has finesse. Some fudgy maltiness, and alcoholic sharpness cutting in. And some Darjeeling, too.

Palate: Presents really well for 45%. Entry is malty sweet with just a hint of strawberries and red fruit. It builds and shows more of what the nose promised: lots of varnished old leather, chocolate, American coffee, and then some earthy flavors. Moss, rancio, mushrooms (almost). Burned red fruit jam. Generally, the fruit is subtle. Seems rather older than its age, but it's a fine sherry indeed.

Finish: Malty chocolate, rancio, clay, and more of the leather varnish, only in trace amounts. In all, the finish is brief, but it's a really excellent dram. I'd be rather pleased to have mhor of this dram, if only the distillery were still around.
