Duncan Taylor Rare Auld Glen Moray 1988 21 Year Old

Duncan Taylor is an independent bottler with their HQ in Huntly, close to Aberdeen. Their Rare Auld series normally contains casks that have matured for over 30 years, but apparantly this 21 Year Old Glen Moray was considered old enough to be bottled under this banner. It was neither chill filtered nor coloured.

The nose is very perfumy. Floral and grassy, before the fruit emerges. And there is a whole lot a fruit to be discovered here. Apple, mandarin and a touch of pineapple and peach. Quite a bit of icing sugar. Hazelnuts. A fresh twig of mint. Touch of oak. With water, the grass and pineapple develop the most.

It is wonderfully creamy and very peppery on the palate. Yes, the fruit returns immediately and is upholstered with coconut. The oak is a lot louder now, but far from dominant. Diluted I get some marzipan and citrus. Very nice.

The long finish is spicy on citrus and mint.

Very enjoyable, despite not being complex. Used to be around 100 EUR.
