This is not Asta Morris’ first Glenburgie. Previously he had a much younger version (9 years old), but this is one from 1995, almost 20 years old, from the Signatory stables in Pitlochry.

The nose is succulent and rich. Almost creamy. White fruit, stewed, goes hand in hand with loads of caramel and toffee. Autumn leaves. Forrest scents. Creamy butter. Quite fruity if you leave it for a while. Banana? A bit of cheese cake. Mocha. Yes, mostly mocha. So, a lot going on and it works quite well. Sweet and inviting.

The attack is powerful, nicely spicy and quite mineral. The fruit has to move over to allow some woodsmoke, sweetened farmer’s butter (should such exist), tobacco leaves and mocha. I was waiting for that last bit, to be honest. A leaf of mint? Wonderfully quaffable without water.

Nicely long finish on more of the same, including the mocha. The finish allows mostly the spices and the oak to speak.

Lovely Glenburgie that comes in a beautiful decanter. Just out and available for around 96 EUR. Recommended.
