The German bottler Malts of Scotland came up with a rather brilliant idea. Exclusive whiskies are not attainable for all because of the high price tag, so why not produce half bottles of 35cl? The ‘Angels Choice’ range was born. This is one from my year of birth, filled into 55 small bottles after 41 long years. The bottle does not carry the distillery’s name, merely the year it was founded (1836), which obviously points to Glenfarclas. As you know, Glenfarclas does not allow indies (with one exception) to put the brand name on the label. This was clearly a sherry cask, MoS Cask 11025. Let us get to it!

Ah, this is another one of those sherry bombs on the nose! Candid sugar, figs, dried prunes, dades, roasted almonds and toffee. Italian espresso with chocolate shavings. A leaf of mint. Whiff of cloves. Hint of aniseed. Blackberry jam. Very lively for such an elder.

The attack is very spicy and sweet. Waxy. Oranges. Mon Chérie sans chocolate and liquorice. Midpalate the wood rears its head and makes it drying (not bitter).

The finish, that lasts long, is slightly drying on oranges and mint. Memorable.

Hurray! What a wonderful Glenfarclas. Around 140 EUR for a half bottle. If you can still find it (remember only 55 bottles), then try to taste it. I was able to get it at the Ghent Whisky Festival (with a big thank you to Imanuel & Dominiek).
