ou all know by now it’s Movember time, and what more fitting than tasting this year’s special bottling especially for Movember by the guys at Master of Malt. This little cracker was distilled in September 2002 and bottled in September 2011, this most unusual 9 year old Glenfarclas has been taken from two Oloroso sherry hogshead casks. Not often do we meet young Glenfarclas bottlings at cask strength (the 105 is a good example, but is NAS) and this is a great opportunity to try this. As a lover of Glenfarclas, I ordered a bottle of this even before i tasted it. and i can only say, It’s the smartest move i’ve done in some time, from all possible reasons.in addition £10 from the sale of every bottle will be donated to Movember, and both Master of Malt and Glenfarclas are selling this at operating cost. no profit. So here we go.

Nose: Big and bold sherry: Raisins, quite kirsch-y and fruity. Orange marmalade and a certain spicy edge. Thick layers of chocolate on top of savoury aromas. And to think this is a 9 year old whisky. quite complex. Palate: Spicy entry with a lot of oomph. Rich sherry notes. Some leather. Sultanas & plums with an addition of ripe cherries in liquor. It’s not only sweet but savoury with some pepper too. Very exotic Finish: Chocolate, sultanas , oranges and ample amount of oak.

In one word: Cracker. in two : Go get. It’s special. It’s high quality, it’s wonderfully priced, and it’s all for a worthy cause. had it been a mediocre dram,i would have urged you to buy it, but this being so good as it is,on top of the just cause. Get one while it lasts. I’m sure it’s going to sell like hot buns, and rightly so, if i might add.
